Here at South Bank UTC, we focus solely on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) …..and we do it well. We know our subjects, employ experienced specialists, and it is at the forefront of everything we do. Students are likeminded young people who are looking at either further study, entering directly into a career, or completing an apprenticeship within one of the STEM fields.
We offer an innovative and exciting way of learning. Lessons are a mixture of theory and practical, with an emphasis on workshops, scientific investigations and the use of technology to solve problems and design solutions. The curriculum is narrower, although we are able to offer a variety of pathways.
Offer: Engineering (BTEC level 3); Maths (A level or core level 3); Physics; Chemistry; Biology; Computer Science; and English plus Extended Project Qualification.
Entry requirements: 5 GCSEs at 9-5 grade including English and maths. Grades 9-6 in any subject selected at A level.
Level 3 BTEC pathway
Offer: BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma (Engineering) plus Extended Project Qualification.
Entry requirements: 5 GCSEs at 9-5 grade including English and maths.
Level 2 BTEC pathway
Offer: BTEC level 2 Diploma (Performing manufacturing operations) - one year.
Entry requirements: 5 GCSEs at 9-4 grade, although you may have achieved a grade 3 in English and/or maths (students on this course may complete re-takes in GCSE English and/or mathematics).

The curriculum also facilitates the development of personal skills. Projects and trips are designed to ensure students are highly employable, professional qualifications are on offer within our CPD and enrichment programmes, and actively engaged sponsors and partners contribute a wealth of experiences including lectures, one to one sessions and larger scale events such as the Skanska Takeover day.

There are fantastic personal study facilities, including laptops and desktop computers loaded with Computer Aided Design software. Students are permitted to study off-site in the afternoons if they have no more lessons and are also permitted to sign out for the lunchtime break.
A number of leadership and employment opportunities are on offer within the UTC and, as in the professional world, these roles are offered to students with excellent records of attendance, punctuality and conduct.
Dedicated staff to support UCAS applications
Students receive high levels of advice in relation to their UCAS applications and personal statements. There are dedicated staff to support this process and our industry partners also run workshops and one to one sessions.
