Now is the ideal time to consider your options for the future….for GCSEs and beyond...

Your school will be consulting you about your pathway options into Years 10 and 11, and we know this can prompt the contemplation of alternatives to the traditional GCSE and International Baccalaureate routes.  Do you want to study ten or eleven subjects?  Or would you rather focus your studies on the things you enjoy and do well?

Students entering South Bank UTC experience an innovative and exciting way of studying.  Lessons are a mixture of theory and practical, with an emphasis on workshops, scientific investigations and the use of technology to solve problems and design solutions.  The curriculum is narrower, with students in Key Stage 4 studying core GCSEs, including English, Mathematics, Sciences and Computer Science, alongside BTEC Level 2 Engineering and short course Religious Studies GCSE.  PE is taken once per week in our brand new facilities in phase 2 of our campus development (complete October 2018).

Our curriculum facilitates the development of personal skills as well as academic and technical knowledge, with projects and trips designed to ensure our students are highly employable.  Professional qualifications are on offer within our CPD and enrichment programmes and Physical Education is an important element of the weekly timetable.

Our project-based curriculum, developed with our employer sponsors, provides real life experiences alongside the core subject knowledge.  Students undertake their own research in evolving innovative solutions to real-life problems.  The projects are managed and led by the students from concept, through to design and manufacture, and delivering their final pitches to our sponsor partners.

Our Key Stage 4 offer facilitates the same pathway into Key Stage 5 and degree courses as a traditional school….although there are many more opportunities for exposure to employers and apprenticeship providers.  But don’t just take our word for it, see what our students and parents have to say….

'I love being able to focus my time on Maths, Engineering and Computer Science.  I want to do something in computer programming when I’m older and my previous school didn’t offer anything like this.'

'I have been able to really develop my mathematical skills since attending this school. With more hours to devote to Maths, I am really enjoying it…even algebra!'
Year 10 student

'Last year I helped to build a bamboo bike which we constructed to ISO standards and then test-rode in Brockwell Park…and It didn’t fall apart!  I am so proud of what I helped to build.'
